Give Your Life a Boost with Personal Development

Getting started on personal development can be daunting with so many books available, courses to take, and people to follow. Personal development is often better attained when you have a single focus to think about and work your way up from there. Everyone has things about themselves that they want to work on whether it is their weight, confidence, public speaking, or presentation skills.

The thing about working on self-improvement is that you will discover things about yourself along the way. You may realize that you do have some of the attributes needed already to get that job or to take on a new opportunity. When starting personal development give yourself room to heal, hold space, and continue on your journey once you have learned something.

There are small things you can do such as picking up a book about a personal development topic that interests you. Whether it is about meditation, finance, exercise, or something else, start by picking up one book that interests you rather than several. Pick books from the library in case a book you choose doesn’t resonate with you so you can just return it and select another one. The key here is to allow yourself flexibility and a chance to resonate with what content you are consuming.

Let’s look at three ways you can boost and move along in your personal development journey:

  1. Have a space in your home – If you have a spare room in your home this is the perfect opportunity to change the room into something inspiring. Make the room one you can both work and lounge in.  A space for reading, working, exercise, or whatever makes you feel good. Decorate the room with things you find beautiful, relaxing, and inspiring. Ensure that it is comfortable and is somewhere you will want to spend time in. In this space ensure that you do activities that will help to move you forward in your journey. I use my room to exercise, meditate, read, and work on my writing. It is also a great space to hold meetings online due to the relaxation it brings. I can focus, without any distractions in a space that is completely me.
  2. Give yourself more time – Giving yourself more time is something we need. Unlike money, time is the one currency that we all have the same amount of. This is where waking up early comes in. Waking up early, especially in the summer when the air is still cool will allow you to get in some time for activities that fill you up. This doesn’t mean that you have to get up at 5 a.m. everyday. But it does mean that getting up an hour earlier will allow you to feel more organized and content in your daily life. Before you get up early, plan out what you will do the next morning with your time. Things like reading, meditation, exercise, and completing small tasks and chores are all great ways to start your day.
  3. Write a letter to yourself in the future – As crazy as it sounds writing a letter to your future self is a great way to document your future aspirations and goals. You will also have a better chance of achieving them. One personal example of this would be when I created my online career portfolio, I had a list of five things that I desperately wanted to achieve. A few years later when I was showing the portfolio to someone as an example, I realized during the conversation that I had achieved those goals within a timespan of two years! Writing a letter to your future self is a great way to get things moving and will get you started and motivated for future endeavors.

Creating time for yourself and your dreams, setting goals, and envisioning yourself achieving these goals are part of the first steps to utilizing personal development to help enhance your life. Personal development is a process that does not happen overnight or by taking a magical course over a few weeks! While these can be a great start to get you organized and motivated, as individuals we need to take the time to get to know ourselves on a deeper level through self-discovery and exploration. While there is more to personal development than is noted in this blog article, it is important to remember to take time for yourself, clearly mark out what you want in life, and begin to set goals to get to where you want to be.
